Persona 5 Royal

Confidants

Thoughts after completing the game

So I completed the game in a month + a few more days, amidst my work from home days and taking a break from the game days.

After trying both out Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal, I will have to say that P5R is definitely much better than P5.

There are improvements made to the battle where ailments and technical attacks are given more focus and you don’t have to struggle in battles where the shadows do not have any weaknesses.

Story line, it kept mostly similar to P5 except for the changes where Kasumi/Sumire and Maruki comes in. I definitely like the change to the way we get to spend time with Akechi and the extra story in January with Akechi. It gives us a glimpse of another side of him.

Leveling is much easier in P5R as compared to P5 due to the Cognitive change by Jose in Mementos. If you managed to farm Reapers on in December with 200% EXP, just a few Reapers can easily max your level out. I managed to get everyone on my team to Level 99 before the last battle. This is something not easily achievable in P5 unless you grind for hours in Mementos. And the last boss battle with Maruki is definitely way too easy since all the characters are easily at Level 99 by then.

I managed to achieve Max Social Stats, 99% Compendium (except for NG+ Persona – Satanael), MAX Confidants Level for all, read all books, complete all Mementos request and even 100% Trophy all in my first play through. If you would like to achieve them in your first play, you can refer to my monthly walkthrough above.

I felt that they could have done better with the Trophy. Unlike P4G and P5 where you some of the trophies can only be unlocked in NG+, P5R makes everything achievable on your first run. P5 trophies definitely wins vs P5R.

Overall, I greatly enjoyed my P5R first run and I clocked 104 hours of playtime! I will have to take a break and spend some time on my other games but I will definitely be back for NG+!
